POSITION OVERVIEW

American Giant is looking for an Associate Merchant to join our rapidly growing business. You will support the merchandising team to develop product strategies and seasonal assortment plans for a department or assigned area. You will have a constant pulse on the business, customer and competitive market. You will coordinate information across functions, working closely with Design, Product Development, Planning, Site Merchandising and Creative. You will report directly to our Merchandising Lead.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Build product strategies to grow the business into annual and seasonal line plans 
  • Impact category assortment, color assortment, launch strategy, and pricing
  • Analyze seasonal assortment of products within your category (what works, what doesn't), use the data to create a strategy for future seasons and provide actionable recommendations
  • Improve the product offering and assortment based on competitive market analysis, analyzing sales trends and obtaining feedback from reviews and stores
  • Identify and develop new product expansion ideas that would both apply to our core customer as well as bring in a new customer
  • Manage pricing structure for given categories while maintaining target margins
  • Work with Planning to determine seasonal budgets and buy quantities
  • Maintain accurate assortment line lists and communicate updates or changes to the cross functional partners in an ongoing and timely basis
  • Perform monthly and quarterly hindsights of the business
  • Manage existing processes, systems and calendars and implement new ones to drive efficiency

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

    • 3+ years experience in apparel merchandising and/or e-commerce merchandising
    • Experience working on both digital and retail teams
    • Knowledge of product development, financials, and production
    • Excellent communication skills - presents and influences at all levels of the organization
    • Strong Analytical and Math Skills, specifically in merchandise planning
    • Strong Excel Knowledge, experience modeling and analyzing inventory levels
    • Ability to deal successfully with complexities of an expanding organization
    • BA/BS degree
