Trainer Spotlight
THE PEOPLE
Throughout January, we’re celebrating the people who move us. The person who coaches your team, teaches your favorite fitness class, or works with you in 1:1 training sessions does more than just help you feel the burn. Through connecting with you, they help you connect with yourself–building your spirit as well as your body.

TRAINER SPOTLIGHT
We asked three trainers that move us about their story and how they connect with people through training
MEET
PRESTON SMITH
At his Oakland practice, Preston Ray Fitness, Preston Smith provides personal training designed to improve human movement and athleticism.
AG: How do you connect with the people you train?
Preston S.: I connect with passion, purpose and love. Training is my ministry so to speak and it is something that I have always felt strongly about since I was a child.
AG: What's a takeaway from your personal health + fitness journey?
Preston S.: Taking care of your body is empowering on a physical, social, and mental level. Your entire outlook on life changes when you dedicate yourself to exercising on a regular basis.
MEET
SADIE LINCOLN
As the Co-Founder and CEO of Barre 3 (now boasting over 170 studios worldwide), Sadie has fostered a movement focused on body positivity, being empowered, and redefining what success in fitness means.
AG: What's most fulfilling for you about connecting with the people you teach at Barre 3?
Sadie L.: I continue to be inspired by the group dynamic because every single class is different. It's beautiful to hold space for clients by helping them modify moves to suit what they need in that moment while simultaneously leading the synchronicity that happens while we are all moving to the same rhythm and beat of the music. There's a balance of togetherness and honoring individualism that I find deeply rewarding as an instructor. All humans, and certainly each client in my class, desire to be seen and heard and we all also want the feeling of belonging and community.
MEET
SADIE KURZBAN
Sadie Kurzban is the founder of 305 Fitness, which is an underground non-stop dance cardio workout that infuses dance moves, sports drills and high-intensity interval training.
AG: How do you connect with the people you train / coach / teach?
Sadie K.: I make an effort to connect through humor and fun. I try to keep things light and remember that most people don’t actually enjoy exercising. So I celebrate every win, most of all showing up! And I do my best to create an environment that’s light, uplifting, and positive. Judgment and seriousness are not part of it!
INCREDIBLE COMPACT COTTON
Matthew, The Farmer
